celine multifunction wallet review | Quality issues on my brand new Celine

kjqngze182z

Purchased in December 2019 at Nordstrom Vancouver, my Celine Medium Strap Wallet in Grained Leather has been a constant companion for over two years. This review aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of its wear and tear, functionality, and overall value, considering its position within the broader Celine wallet landscape, which includes models like the Celine Triomphe Wallet, the Celine Triomphe Compact Wallet, and the larger Celine Large Flap Multifunction wallet. My experience will hopefully offer valuable insights to prospective buyers considering a Celine wallet investment.

Review: Celine Medium Strap Wallet

The Celine Medium Strap Wallet, unlike the more structured Celine Large Flap Multifunction wallet or the compact Triomphe options, offers a balance between size and capacity. It's not overly bulky, yet it comfortably holds all my essentials. The grained leather, a hallmark of Celine's commitment to quality materials, initially felt luxurious and supple. The subtle texture provided a pleasing tactile experience and a certain level of resistance to scratches. However, after two years of daily use, the leather has developed a beautiful patina, a testament to its quality but also indicative of the wear and tear it has endured. The patina is uneven, reflecting the areas most frequently handled – the edges of the wallet and the areas around the card slots. This is not necessarily a negative; many appreciate the development of character in leather goods over time. It's a sign of a well-loved and well-used accessory.

The strap itself, a key feature differentiating this wallet from the others, is a convenient addition. It’s securely attached and allows for comfortable hand-carrying, particularly useful when I don't want to carry a larger bag. While initially firm, the strap has softened with use, becoming more pliable and comfortable to hold. There’s a slight concern about the long-term durability of the stitching on the strap's attachment points, although so far, it remains secure.

The interior layout is practical and well-organized. The multiple card slots, a generous bill compartment, and a zipped coin pouch are thoughtfully designed. The card slots, however, show signs of stretching after two years of holding multiple cards. While this is expected with consistent use, it’s worth noting that the leather's slight give has resulted in some cards feeling less secure than initially. This is a minor inconvenience, easily mitigated by not overfilling the slots.

Celine Triomphe Wallet Review: A Comparison

While I own the Medium Strap Wallet, I've had the opportunity to handle the Celine Triomphe Wallet and the Celine Triomphe Compact Wallet. The Triomphe line features the iconic Celine Triomphe canvas and hardware, offering a more distinctive and immediately recognizable aesthetic. The Triomphe wallets tend to be more compact, sacrificing some storage space for a more streamlined profile. The Triomphe Compact Wallet, in particular, is ideal for those who carry only the essentials. The material is less prone to scratches than the grained leather of my wallet, but it might lack the same luxurious feel. The Triomphe line's emphasis on the logo also appeals to a different consumer preference – one that prioritizes branding over the understated elegance of the grained leather.
